A brighter tomorrow beginning today.

Welcome to Luminarias Institute Inc.

Our mission is to increase accessibility of mental health services to underserved populations, while actively combating the stigma associated with seeking and utilizing treatment.

Our services

We provide individual, group, and family therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults in school-based settings. We treat depression and anxiety, specializing in trauma work (i.e., post-traumatic stress disorder, sexual, physical, psychological and emotional abuse), grief and loss, and challenges related to biculturalism.

We also provide consultation to school staff and agencies, and conduct psychoeducational seminars and workshops.

Our approach

We utilize evidence-based treatments (EBT), primarily cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and family systems therapy, offered by clinicians who are culturally competent and multilingual. It is important for us to understand our clients’ backgrounds, ethnicities, and belief systems, as well as to understand and interpret nuances, dialects, and colloquialisms in order to effectively treat clients from diverse backgrounds and histories.

Cultural competency encompasses knowledge, sensitivity, and experience in addressing challenges related to ethnic and geographic cultures from countries other than the U.S. and subcultures within the U.S. population. This is a necessary component to effective treatment of first and second-generation immigrant clients, whose issues are exacerbated by a misunderstanding or confusion of cultural history.

Our clinicians

We provide our clinicians with extensive group and individual supervision and offer formal didactic training experiences and workshops to further develop and complement their comprehensive experiences in the field of clinical-community psychology.

Supervision is supported for clinicians from various schools of thought in doctorate, marriage and family therapy, and social work programs as all supervision is provided by a licensed clinical psychologist, LMFT, or LCSW with years of experience serving multilingual and multi-cultural communities.
